Oakley Carnival - Pearly Kings and Queens Theme
Carnival Procession
Fabulous day at Oakley Carnival 2019. Following the carnival theme, Pre-school entered the carnival procession as Mary Poppins. The staff were dressed as Mary Poppins, Bert and the Pearly Band, the children were dressed as chimney sweeps and their parents/carers and Committee Members were dressed up as Pearly Kings and Queens. A colourful 6ft patchwork kite was flown ('lets go fly a kite') and trailed through the procession singing along to 'Supercalifragilisticexpialidocious'. A tremendous job by all and a good turn out on the day!

Carnival Scarecrow Trail
Pre-school's scarecrow was the Mary Poppins Pearly Band.

July - Oakley Carnival Preparations
Oakley Carnival is always a very exciting time in our village and we have been preparing for our entry into the scarecrow trail and our 'walking float' in the carnival procession. The children have been working hard, putting the final touches to our entries. We have linked the carnival preparations to our curriculum planning and we have had great fun making bunting in the garden and butterflies and musical instruments for our Pearly Band. Lots of chalk drawings have been made too!!

Wet June
Some photos from the last few weeks. We have made the most of the unprecedented wet start to June with lots of learning outside in the rain.
Our caterpillars arrived, we have observed their transition from caterpillar to cocoon, as part of the children's interest in mini beasts and also our transition from pre-school to school for our older cohort. We walked some of our children down to Oakley Primary Academy for a morning visit and have welcomed teachers from different settings into pre-school to get to know the children that will be joining their schools in September 😊☔️☁️

Outdoor Play and Park Visit
Exciting times! Our new rope swing arrived, we worked together to make a boat in the garden and visited the park too!

St George's Day
A great first week back at pre-school! We have welcomed a new staff member, Miss Samantha Bance, to our pre-school team. Sam is settling in very well and getting to know all the children. Our new starters are also getting used to the Pre-school routine.
We made shields, as part of our St. George's Day celebrations. We worked in small groups, both indoors and outdoors, to paint the shields. We used sponges and syringes. It was great fun! 😊

Easter Egg Trail
The Easter Egg Trail around the village in the Easter holidays was a huge success. We had lots of lovely sunshine for all to enjoy the walk around the village.
We made £300 to go towards our new build project, so a massive thank you for all who took part. We hope you enjoyed the trail and your chocolate prize!

Spring has come!
We have enjoyed the start of Spring! We have been making good use of the new hay bales, after watching them arrive on a tractor. We explored using them in lots of different ways. Our science experiment has led to lots of discussion about how the flowers have changed colour. The children have been observing the changes each day. Sunny days have led to lots of discussion about shadows and we have drawn around them with our playground chalks. We celebrated some birthdays this week and the children have had the opportunity to make some cards for Mothers' Day.
